PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

FormulaShellTM Motor Oils

SAE 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40, 20W-50, 30 and 40

The FormulaShellTM range of motor oils offer exceptional protection for vehicles powered by gasoline, LPG or CNG, including passenger cars, pickup trucks and vans.

The FormulaShellTM family of multigrade and single grade motor oils cover a range of SAE viscosity grades, 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40, 20W-50, SAE 30 and SAE 40. The domestic automobile manufacturers general recommend the 5W-30 grade for all-season use in late-model 4- and small 6 cylinder engines, whereas the 10W-30 grade is preferred for some larger 6-cylinder and V-8 gasoline engines and for turbocharged models. The SAE 10W-40 grade is still popular with consumers although it is not recommended by Chrysler, Ford or General Motors for use in their recent model engines. Some European vehicle manufacturers, however, recommend the 10W-40 grade, particularly for high temperature operation. The 20W-50 grade is designed for severe service in high summer temperatures, particularly in European vehicles. The SAE 30 and SAE 40 grade oils may be used in certain temperature conditions, where they deliver excellent protection. Always refer to the vehicle's manual for the manufacturer's recommendations regarding the correct viscosity grade and performance levels required for proper lubrication of a particular engine.

FormulaShellTM Multigrade and Single grade motor oils are formulated with powerful additive systems designed especially for the new API SJ, Energy Conserving and ILSAC GF-2 performance requirements and offer the following benefits:

The new ILSAC GF-2 and API SJ specifications represent new levels of performance, including fuel efficiency in today's low friction engines, lower phosphorus levels for emission system durability, new low-temperature flowability requirements and new high temperature deposit test requirements to ensure turbocharger cleanliness. All the FormulaShellTM Motor Oils exceed the API SJ classification requirements and can be used where the previous service classifications API SH, SG or SF were recommended. In addition, the 5W-30 and 10W-30 grades exceed the Energy Conserving II requirements and the ILSAC GF-2 specification. There grades can be used where the previous ILSAC GF-1 specification was recommended. For applications in diesel engines, such as API CD (obsolete), API CF-4 or API CG-4, the appropriate viscosity of the ROTELLA T oils is recommended.

FormulaShellTM Synthetic Blend Motor Oils

SAE 5W30 and 10W30

FormulaShellTM Synthetic Blend Motor Oils 5W-30 and 10W-30 are Shell's ultimate motor oils. Their advanced formulations combine high quality mineral oils with synthetic oils to extend their performance capabilities beyond those of conventional mineral oil blends, especially in the extreme temperatures of the North American climate. They offer outstanding protection for vehicles powered by gasoline, LPG or CNG, including passenger cars, sport utility vehicles, vans and pickup trucks.

The FormulaShellTM Synthetic Blend motor oils are offered in two viscosity grades, SAE 5W-30 and SAE 10W-30. The domestic automobile manufacturers generally recommend the 5W-30 grade for all-season use in late model 4- and small 6-cylinder gasoline engines, whereas the 10W-30 grade is preferred for some larger gasoline engines and for turbocharged models. Typically, Japanese manufacturers are also recommending lower viscosity, fuel efficient grades such as 5W-30 and 10W-30. Always refer to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations for advice regarding the correct viscosity grade, performance classification and oil drain interval for a particular model car and engine.

The performance benefits of FormulaShellTMSynthetic Blends include:

The FormulaShellTM Synthetic Blend 5W-30 and 10W-30 motor oils exceed the requirements of API SJ, API Energy Conserving and ILSAC GF-2 specifications. The new ILSAC GF-2 and API SJ specifications represent new levels of performance, including: improved fuel efficiency in today's low-friction gasoline engines, lower phosphorus levels for emission system durability, new low-temperature flowability requirements and new high temperature deposit test requirements to ensure turbocharger cleanliness. The FormulaShell Synthetic Blend 5W-30 and 10W-30 oils can be used also where API SH, SG, SF or ILSAC GF-1 oils are recommended. For applications in diesel engines, such as API CD (obsolete), API CF-4 or API CG-4, the appropriate viscosity grade of Rotella T Oils is recommended.

Shell RIMULA® Oils

SAE 10W, 30, and 40

Shell RIMULA Oils are premium heavy duty API CD-plus, and CF diesel engine oils for severe service conditions. These oils are ideal for off-highway diesel powered fleets.

  • Offers high alkalinity (TBN-E 12.0) to neutralize wear-causing products of combustion longer than ordinary API CD oils.
  • Provide an extra measure of protection where fuel sulfur levels are high, or when oil drain intervals must occasionally be extended.
  • Have excellent high-temperature dispersancy as well as antiwear action and oxidation resistance.
  • Help promote long engine life.
  • Are recommended for Caterpillar 3600 Series engines.

  • Shell RIMULA Oils have been a top quality oil brand for Caterpillar engines for over 45 years. They can also be used as transmission oils. They meet the requirements of Caterpillar's TO-2 test, and both 10W and 30 grades are approved under the Allison C-4 specification. They are also suitable for equipment hydraulic systems where engine oils are specified.

Shell RIMULA Oils meet the performance requirements of API CF, CD-plus and CC (obsolete) for diesels, SD and SE for gasoline engines and MIL-L-2104C (obsolete).
